Carter has just released a single with Jennifer Paige called Beautiful
Nick Carter was the first Backstreet Boy to give the solo thing a bash. Now or Never, his debut album, was released in 2002, reaching number 17 on the Billboard 200 charts. Carter has just released a single with Jennifer Paige called Beautiful.
Brian Littrell waited four years to before he also tried his hand flying solo. Releasing his first album, Welcome Home, with the title track as the first single on May 2, Littrell was targeting a slightly different audience, his offerings reaching the top three on the Billboard Christian Charts.
A.J. Maclean decided to go solo just last year and says the experience has helped him grow in more ways than one. “I started to play some of my solo stuff on tour and it seemed to go down pretty well, so I thought I’d give it a try,” he said.
“My first album is a montage of my life,” he told tabloid! “The inspiration for my music has been so varied. Anything from break-ups, drinking problems, the drug abuse I’ve overcome, my father… It’s all very emotional, but it was what was happening at this time in my life.”
While on the Unbreakable tour, McLean impressed Backstreet fans with songs including London and Drive By Love.
Around the same time as A.J., Howie Dorough began work on his first solo album. His new material was first performed on the Backstreet Boys’ Unbreakable tour earlier this year, wowing fans with a song called She’s Like the Sun. Last year he recorded a duet with Philippine’s singer Sarah Geronimo.
Plans for Christmas
Whether on tour or planning the next album, A.J. McLean says as much as the boys are like their own family, they also like to enjoy a bit of space. “We live in each other’s pockets a lot of the time so it’s nice to get some space and perspective sometimes too,” he says.
“We live in the US, but not close enough to pop over for dinner every night. We work so hard when we’re touring to make sure we deliver the best show we possibly can for our fans and it can be so exhausting. I think we are all looking forward to Christmas and having a break.
“We will all be with our friends and families and it gives you a chance to catch up.”
