AJ, a member of Backstreet Boys, said his Mexican followers were out support for rehabilitation.

Monterrey, NL .- After being hospitalized for the third time in a rehabilitation center in California, AJ McLean, member of Backstreet Boys, has rejoined the group to not disappoint his fans in Mexico.

The 33 years old musician spoke with "Hey!" by telephone from Los Angeles, where with the help of Rochelle Deanna Karidis, his fiancé since 2010, fighting together with him against the addiction to drugs and alcohol.

NKOTB's Joey McIntyre Gives Update on BSB A.J. McLean in Rehab

New Kids on the Block singer Joey McIntyre has been in the music business for over 24 years and has seen some friends battle with addiction in the limelight, including Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean who recently made the decision to enter rehab.
"A.J. is a sweet kid, good kid and extremely talented, so we're all there for him," said Joey. AJ admitted himself earlier this month before heading on the huge NKOTB/BSB tour.
Young star Aaron Carter is reportedly seeking professional help as well to deal with some unknown "emotional and spiritual issues," and Joey commended Aaron for making that step.
"To me it's usually a good thing when someone can take some time and retreat from it all and, you know, just get a little bit more centered," Joey said, encouragingly.
Justin Bieber has managed to stay clean in his career thus far and Joey gave some advice to the star for staying on the right track.
"Hopefully, kids like Justin… there's a lot of young artists out there and hopefully they got good family around them and they just, you know, be able to take the ups and downs," Joey said.
On Monday, Joey filmed a TV spot for Hear the World Foundation, which raises awareness about hearing loss, how to recognize it and steps that can be taken to prevent its occurrence.
This organization's cause personally affects Joey since his one-year-old son Rhys was diagnosed with severe hearing loss, but the singer says that "being aided by the hearing aids, he is hearing as a normal 13-month-old."

Is There a Backstreet Boys Rehab Curse?

Tell me why | Ain't nothin' but a heartache for the Backstreet Boys these days. You'd think they'd be on top of the world with their big plans to climb inside a time machine and travel back to 1996 tour with New Kids on the Block this summer, but things are looking rough for the no-longer-boy-band lately.

First A.J. McLean announced that he had returned to rehab, his third stint since dealing with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse problems in 2001 and again in 2002. In a statement issued to MTV News, McLean said,

"For personal reasons, I've checked myself into a rehab clinic. With 2011 being a busy year for Backstreet, I want to be healthy and at my best. Thank you for all of your support and respecting my family and friends' privacy during this time. I'll see you really soon."
Right afterwards, Aaron Carter (brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter), entered his own facility, citing "emotional and spiritual issues." The former Dancing With the Stars contestant checked into a private Southern California rehab center earlier this month, and his manager confirmed that he's taking a break from working on his new album in order to get treatment:
"(Aaron) has chosen to enter a facility where he feels he will get the guidance and cleansing he needs that will help him on the music journey he's about to take. He asks that everyone keep him in their prayers and that they respect his privacy at this time."
Carter also has a troubled past, including an arrest in 2008 in Texas for investigation of marijuana possession, and in 2009, it was revealed he owed more $1 million in back taxes.

I wonder what the common thread is between these two guys—too much money, too many temptations, too soon? Just bad luck? Why are the Backstreet Boys plagued with problems while the NKOTB are comparatively doing just fine? (Maybe because they take each day step by step?)
